"How Did You Get Into This Business?"

I've always been good at picking up computery things. My family's first computer was a 486 machine with an amber monochrome monitor. I thought it was beautiful.

With the help of a DOS book, I quickly learned the ins and outs of the operating system, learned how to use Wordstar and Lotus 1-2-3, and played my first computer game (The Ancient Art of War at Sea). It was all so fascinating, but there was no internet yet.

Unfortunately it wasn't until right after college graduation, right when the internet started to boom, that I discovered we could create our very own web pages. I bought HTML For Dummies and spent an entire summer holed up in my boiler-room apartment learning about tables, image alignment and background colors. I created so many useless web pages, my addiction was apparent.

I decided to abandon what my degree had prepared me for and embark on a web-related career. It was my calling, I just knew it. I was learning Javascript when I scored an entry-level position with a small web development company, and the rest is history.
